La Villa Del Doge

The Villa Del Doge The Villa Del Doge

A large, luxury apartment in the left wing of a Palladian villa located between Padua and Treviso and only 45 minutes from Venice.

The apartment which spreads out on the first and second floor over a surface of 400 square metres can comfortably sleep 8 people.

From the entrance on the ground floor, a marble staircase leads up to the first floor where there is a large living-room, kitchen with open plan dining room and the master en-suite double bedroom, with its original wood beamed ceiling. The bedroom has an adjoining private sitting-room with writing desk overlooking the ornate Italian garden below.

On the second floor, the top of the stairs leads to three further bedrooms.  The first room is an en-suite double with dressing room, the second a twin room with separate sitting room and access to the third bathroom with bath and shower. Finally, the third double bedroom also with access to the third bathroom.

The apartment was recently restored to a very high standard and includes many original features; furniture and objects from the period of the construction of the house, paintings, sculptures and Venetian stucco walls.

Close to the main building, separated from the park and reserved for private use is the swimming pool. Surrounding the pool are flower-beds and a large patio with a barbeque, seating area and a changing room.

The villa was built by Doge Niccolò Marcello, from one of the most powerful and noble families of Venice, in the second half of the 16th century. His architect was the famous Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) who constructed this fine example of Renaissance architecture with two wings, or “Barchesse” situated around an ornate garden in the middle. Originally the wings would have been used to store the farm’s produce on the ground floor with the Estate Manager’s apartment and guest rooms on the first floor. Since its construction the same Marcello family have lovingly restored and maintained the house and have been welcoming guests.

The lands are 7 hectares of mature woods, well tended gardens, statues and a large fish pond. There is also a football field and mountain bikes available to guests.

The property is 45 minutes from Venice and 40 minutes from Padua, home to the Scrovegni Chapel with its Giotto frescoes and the oldest university in Europe.
